Canal de Bourgogne
Paris, Havana, Pamplona, three of the many emotive places described by Ernest Hemingway on his journeys. These are the names of the cabins on board this luxury barge hotel where you can capture the romance and adventure of the legendary story teller as you travel through Burgundy's most beautiful landscapes, supping the wines and visiting the best that the region has to offer. This is the crème de la crème of travel.
In the words of the master himself, ' I still need more healthy rest in order to work at my best. My health is the main capital I have and I want to administer it intelligently' *.
The Hemingway cruise puts the emphasis on wellness - it is just the place to relax and recharge with plenty of points of interest and good company along the way. This is an all inclusive holiday - you will be picked up at your Paris hotel, drift through the beautiful French countryside, be chauffeured around while in Burgundy in the company of a hostess and get VIP treatment en route.
The Hemingway luxury barge has recently been completely refitted with all creature comforts and accommodates six guests. Your hosts are Edward Anderson and Cindy Unvericht, above left, adventurers themselves, who have travelled the world. You will be wined and dined, entertained and pampered too, in an unassuming sort of way.
In addition to your hosts there are five crew on board, a high guest to crew ratio. Much attention has been paid to detail on the boat - the three suites with en suite facilities have top quality beds and bedding to ensure a comfortable night, locally sourced products guarantee delicious meals from the chef, and there's a Jacuzzi spa on the sundeck for a chill out.
Fine wining and dining is a given here. Each meal is paired with the specially selected Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines from the region and the open bar is available to guests throughout the cruise.
Three itineraries are on offer on the beautiful Canal de Bourgogne. One will take you through the lush valley of the river Ouche, the second goes from Dijon to Chagny. In each case the towns of Dijon and Beaune are a must, and other gems include the medieval village of Châteauneuf-en- Auxois, and the famous vineyards and wineries. A third itinerary is for golfers, visiting a different course each day and returning to the barge to relax each evening. The Hemingway prides itself on its variety of flexible itineraries which can be customised to suit. See the night lights of Burgundy's majestic main town Dijon, home of the Dukes of Burgundy back in the 15th C; visit one of the oldest cellars Patriache in Beaune and experience a hot air balloon ride. The trip maybe only six nights but you will have maxed-out each day to the full.
The wellness itinerary provides plenty of time for you to walk or cycle along the tow paths for that all essential daily exercise. WiFi is freely available, and each cabin includes both satellite TV and AppleTV for a quiet evening in. In the main salon, guests can help themselves to the open bar while listening to classic vinyl records. This is relaxed casual cruising at its best.
