On Track in Burgundy
The train system in France has been much admired for its fast, efficient and comfortable services. The TGV, the high-speed train comes through Montbard to Dijon and on to Beaune and Chalon-sur-Saône, and via Sens to Le Creusot, Mâcon and on to Avignon and Marseille. In December 2011 the new Rhine-Rhône TGV line opened from Lyon to Mulhouse via Dijon, improving the access to Germany and Switzerland.
The regional services run at a more leisurely pace and these trains have been getting a facelift. Most noticeable is the Corail Téoz, a super-smart train on the Paris to Nevers route to Clermont-Ferrand. This has all sorts of luxuries from a children’s play area to leather seats and points for the laptop in first class.
