With some of the main motorways in Europe passing through Burgundy, here are some ideal stopping off places as you travel through the region.

Many of the hotels near the autoroutes belong to one of the chains which provide functional, good value accommodation to a set formula so you know what you are getting, with no surprises. Well run, friendly service, usually on the outskirts of town, there is free parking and often a restaurant. Ideal for tourists and business travellers alike.

Campanile is great value; Kyriad, also part of the same group as Campanile, is more upmarket; Ibis is always sound and Novotel is at the upper end of the pricing. Hotels in the Accor group which includes Ibis, Novotel, Mercure, Sofitel and Pullman brands are all giving free wi-fi connections now as standard.

You can now book on-line.
