dijon prenois June 9-11, 2017
Showtime for the four wheel racing legends
That unmistakable sound, the throaty roar of the Cobras greeted us on arrival – eight 289s were pounding round the track, along with Aston Martins, E-type Jaguars, Morgans, Ferraris and MG Bs, plus all the great names of the past. This bode well for the day, and being a Cobra fanatic, it was an even greater bonus that these classic cars took the first five positions in the GT & Sports Car Cup.
L’Age d’Or at Dijon Prenois held each year over a weekend in mid June is a great weekend away for all lovers of beautiful old cars. It is a club meet with a friendly atmosphere; crowded yes, but spacious enough to be able to wander around at ease, including in the pits. There are stands offering spares, magazines and accessories too, plenty of car park space in the field which picnickers made the most of, and light refreshment stops.
The races began at 8.00 a,m on the Saturday morning and continued through for nearly 12 hours each day over the weekend. The Bugattis had a particularly strong turnout with 37 entries from France, Italy and Switzerland in the main for the Bugatti Grand Prix.
There was a strong UK turnout too. Driving in the Racing Legends the oldest car was a Bentley dating back to 1926; a magnificent 1958 Maserati was also of note. Marcos, Ford Mustang, De Tomaso Mangusta… they were all there on display lovingly cared for and fully appreciated by an adoring public.
No adulation for the drivers at this race meeting, the cars, in all their glory, were the defining stars of the show.
