At the Abbey of Pierre-qui-Vire, tucked away in the forest of the Morvan, visitors attend the Sunday mass, lulled by the chants from the Benedictine monks. For anyone wanting to get away from it all, the idea of a few days retreat might be attractive. The abbey has been increasing its accommodation space, and the Frère Hôtelier is on hand to take your reservation. A more peaceful setting you could not wish for amongst the coniferous trees, lakes and streams of the Natural Park.

The beauty of the Gregorian chant cannot fail to stir you. At the Abbey Saint-Joseph de Clairval in the medieval village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, of the Benedictine order also, retreats are offered for men in French some weeks and in English at other times, full details on their website. Or you may prefer to join one of their five day sojourns in your home country – Belgium, Australia and UK are other possibilities.

Paray-le-Monial is another important centre, offering different schedules for men and women at the Monastère de la Visitation. The other convents and monasteries listed on Christian Retreats offer accommodation for individuals rather than a specific programme.
