Decanter World Wine Awards 2006 - Burgundy

Each year Decanter Magazine’s World Wine Awards gather momentum. Over 6000 wines were entered worldwide and out of the 250 wines from the Burgundy region, 150 were awarded medals: 2 Regional Trophies, 5 Gold, 42 Silver, 63 Bronze and 40 Commendations. Flying the Burgundy flag on the judging panel was Michael Schuster, wine writer and lecturer.

The competition has been running for three years now. As Alun Griffiths, Wine Director of Berry Bros & Rudd says: ‘This is a very soundly based competition in that the tasting environment is excellent, the tasters are all professional, unlike some others where professionals and amateurs take part, and panel chairmen/women are recognised as leading authorities in their fields.’

Compiled for burgundytoday.com, the Decanter World Wine Awards 2006 for Burgundy lists the winners, together with tasting notes for each wine. Not all the wines are expensive: Vieilles Vignes Pouilly-Fuissé 2004, from producer Auvigue which won a Gold stands out as good value, as do several of the winners of the Silver medals which retail at under 15€/£10 a bottle.

From an experienced panel of judges made up of wine professionals, we bring you the Decanter World Wine Awards 2006 for Burgundy, compiled for burgundytoday.com. Click here for further information on stockists in the UK, or contact us for worldwide information.
