patrick burnham - sport textile artist

Jorge Lorenzo Textile Art by Patrick BurnhamCapturing the movement of an F1 car, a motorcycle and rider or an American football player, Patrick Burnham creates large format show-stopping pictures which dominate a room. The pictures of MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo (right) looks, at first glance, like a photograph, but take a second look close-to. This is textile art made out of satins, silks and taffetas and these graphic renditions show the skill of Patrick’s appliqué work, combined with his artistic skills.

Using these soft textiles he creates the impression of metallic finishes, of speed and of action in 3D. The larger sections are worked on the sewing machine, the more intricate details are completed by hand. The more complicated & technical parts of the picture might use several layers of fabric and then the all-important shadows & angles are applied with air-brushed ink & hand painting.

Burnham’s art has international appeal. He has made murals for Heathrow Airport, the Palace of Sheikh Maktoum in Dubai & hotels world-wide. The exhibition list is global too – New York, Paris, South of France, Sydney and Andalucia in Southern Spain with clients including Rothmans, Honda, Kuoni and an array of celebs.

Having studied at Guildford School of Art in the UK, followed by Bordeaux University and then Barcelona and Ibiza, he has lived in France for over 30 years. For further information and commissions from this master of sport textile art: burnhamdandp@yahoo.co.uk
