OISEAU LYRE - performance company

The sound of the harp and steel drum played together seems an unlikely combination but it is just one of the original sensations presented by the performance company Oiseau Lyre.

Oiseau Lyre is a unique performance company based in Burgundy, taking its name from the Lyre bird, that champion mimic which has fascinated and inspired composers, poets and artists through the centuries. The male bird is remarkable for having sixteen very long tail feathers which, when spread, form the shape of a lyre.

The work of Oiseau Lyre is a highly original and imaginative blend of music, poetry and dance. Expect to be transported into a world of myths, mask and music created on unusual and evocative instruments. The performers are John Garlick and Nathalie Liamine, with guest artists from time to time. All their pieces are devised and presented on tour throughout France. They also write for children, touring schools and running workshops for all ages.

Currently they are touring with their version of the Fables de la Fontaine which uses voice and song, harp, steel drum and water drums to explore the poetic world of the famous French fables based on Aesop.
