Daniel Algranate - textile design
Colours of the desert by Daniel Algranate
From his studio in Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, Daniel Algranate is constantly evolving his work in the world of textiles and design. Over four floors of this pretty building in the medieval village, you can explore the development of textiles from their early beginnings right up to contemporary design, and buy accessories from the boutique.
Algranate’s work covers the whole spectrum; industrial design for furniture, fabrics for clothing, printing on textiles, weaving, and home furnishings. He stages exhibitions throughout the year to display the work of visiting artisans and annually in June he gathers together textile artists from all over the world at Flavigny for the Marché Exposition de Tissage et d’Arts Textiles (M.E.T.A.T.).
Coming from an art background as an illustrator, Algranate’s first love is painting. He has translated this in his textile work, – the influence of shades of the desert , the heat of Algeria and the colours of Morocco. Another passion is natural fibres expressed in the Jardin Botanique where he grows species used in textiles for their fibre: papyrus and bamboo to pineapple and cotton, and plants for natural dyes.
Anyone interested in this medium will enjoy Maison des
Matières in Flavigny-sur-Ozerain. The website, in French, has a
good reference for related art books, details of other Burgundian textile
artists and news of forthcoming exhibition.
