Founded by Cistercian monks in 1131, Abbaye de la Bussière’s origins are deeply rooted in a long tradition of peace, serenity and hospitality. The monks have long gone but the Abbey retains an air of tranquillity hard to find in the modern world.

Owned and run by the English Cummings family since 2005, the Abbey is today a country house hotel, member of Relais & Châteaux with 16 luxurious bedrooms, each with a jacuzzi bath.

The Abbey nestles in a beautiful 15 acre park, with the small river Arvot flowing through the grounds to feed into a large ornamental lake. On a summer’s day, lunch can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the calm beauty of the park.

A bistrot and a Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant are run by young head chef Emmanuel Hébrard.

In the heart of Burgundy wine country, just half an hour from the historic towns of Dijon and Beaune, Abbaye de la Bussière makes the ideal base for touring the vineyards and wine tasting. The Abbey organises private, guided wine tours for its guests.

With its consecrated crypt and the serenity of the park, the Abbey is a beautiful setting for romantic weddings.

Closed from January 4th to February 10th 2010 .
