Château de Percey
By the Canal de Bourgogne in the north of Burgundy, not far from Auxerre, Chablis and the stately home, Château Ancy-le-Franc, Château de Percey has been transformed by its owners Lara and Pauwl Lunow and saved by them from certain doom. The building was crumbling and just about everything needed attention. After endless work, they have given the building back its vitality and they are keen to share the pleasure of it with their guests. ![]() Nearby you have the vineyards of Chablis and Irancy, the orchards around Auxerre, the River Yonne, the waterways and beautiful countryside at every turn. This is a peaceful neck of the woods, ideal for a relaxing holiday, and Lara is keen to introduce you to the best on offer in the region. This is not a château stuffed full of antique furniture. To the contrary, all the fittings and the décor are contemporary. The marble-clad bathrooms come up to a high spec, WiFi has been installed, and everything included to make a ‘home from home’. But of course this is not home from home, the tall, beautifully proportioned rooms with huge windows, letting the light burst in, make for instant style and elegance. The east wing has been made into one large self-catering house for up to ten, and a smaller two-floored gîte for four. Large and small parties of friends, family reunions, weddings, workshops are welcomed in the château and the extensive grounds. The garden, designed by Arend-Jan van der Horst is in its infancy but offers a glorious place to relax, eat al fresco. Ideal for family holidays, there is a play area set aside in the grounds and Lara and Pauwl’s daughters, Indy and Nina welcome new friends. The accommodation ![]() The gîte has its own entrance and sleeps up to ten. On the ground floor there is a large modern living room with music centre, a study, elegant dining room and kitchen with hob, oven, large fridge, and fitted units.
