Château de la Resle Near Chablis and Auxerre
Château de la Resle is a boutique bed and breakfast fit to grace the pages of Architectural Digest or Interiors magazine. The Dutch owners have combined their love of auction finds with contemporary accessories and art. A short drive from the Auxerre to Pontigny road, this château overlooks the valley of Montigny-la-Resle and is surrounded by its own six hectare parkland with an orangerie and stables – imposing yes, but intimate too, accessible yes, yet it stands alone. Relax in the château before exploring the white wines of Chablis and the red wines of Irancy. Go back in time at Château Ancy-le-Franc and the medieval village of Noyers-sur-Serein, and soak up French vibes in the cafes of Auxerre.
Space is a luxury and at la Resle you have plenty - beautifully proportioned rooms with tall windows looking onto the century old cedar and cyprus trees or onto the rolling countryside. There are two bedrooms with state-of-the-art shower rooms, and two suites with living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Each bedroom has tea and coffee making facilities and a minibar. The staircase is a bold slate colour; the guest sitting room is dramatic in damson, each background a perfect foil for punchy modern art. Purity, simplicity and subtlety, comfortable luxury are the watchwords with thoughtful additions such as the hospitality bar, and a gym to keep body and mind in shape.
