Barge Hotel

The Randle

A fully staffed luxury motor barge accommodating just four guests, for a personal, exclusive cruise along the Burgundy canal - a trip tailored to your every need

From late spring until autumn, the Randle can be seen cruising along the Canal du Nivernais and the River Yonne in northern Burgundy. This is the most naturally beautiful canal in the region with wooded banks, rocky outcrops and lazy villages. You will pass through the locks, proudly maintained by the lock keepers who tend their geraniums in customary French style. Along the way you will stop off to visit some of the gems of the area from châteaux to medieval towns. The Randle is staffed by the captain, tour guide and chef. The schedule can be both relaxed and flexible.

Tim Harrold is the captain and owner of the Randle. The boat was built in 2001 using traditional, fine quality materials - rich wood panelling, solid brass fittings and leather upholstery. There are two guest suites, the lounge and dining area, a sun deck and staff quarters.

Gael is the cordon bleu chef on board. Sometimes you will dine in, other meals will be taken in local restaurants along the route from friendly auberges to Michelin starred restaurants. Food and wine are some of the highlights of Burgundy, to be savoured and enjoyed and she will introduce you to the best on offer.

Your tour guide will chauffeur you around to the medieval towns of Vézelay and Noyers-sur-Serein, Château Bazoches, and wine tasting in Chablis. There are food shops and markets to explore, local fête days to enjoy and local customs and history to observe.

There will be plenty of time to relax on board too. There are bikes for exercise along the tow path and the boat is equipped with WiFi to keep you in touch with the outside world, should you feel inclined. But overall, you will have a feeling of tranquility, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life which is just what a holiday should be about.
